Urban and Regional Planning

Iowa's Urban and Regional Planning Program was founded in 1964, and the University of Iowa is recognized as a leader in developing a curriculum attuned to the changing world of planning.  At the heart of the two-year master's degree program is an integrated core curriculum that provides first-year students with a solid foundation in social problem and public policy analysis. Students in the second year of Iowa's program focus on areas of concentration, which include economic development, land use and environmental planning, housing and community development, transportation, and the use of geographic information systems. Students often specialize in two of these areas, leading to enhanced employment opportunities.
