Post-Doctoral Research Scholar

A Postdoctoral Research Scholar position is immediately available to study the etiology of craniofacial birth defects with an emphasis on cleft lip and palate.  We have recently discovered a major gene for cleft lip and palate in humans.  This novel discovery provides the unique opportunity to characterize the molecular function of this gene during normal and abnormal craniofacial embryology.  An ongoing study complimentary to our human genetic studies is the characterization of a mouse model for cleft lip and palate.  For this position, a Ph.D., D.D.S., or a M.D. is required. Applicants should be highly motivated with the ability to work independently and have a strong background in biology, genetics, and molecular biology.  The laboratory functions as a cohesive group; hence candidates must have excellent communication skills and innately be a team player.  On campus collaborations include researchers in the genetic, molecular and cell biology, anatomy and cell biology, pediatrics and orthodontic academic units.  The salary is competitive and fringe benefits are included.  The University of Iowa has been recognized for excellence in research and post-doctoral training.  The University of Iowa is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.  Applicants should send a curriculum vitae and names of three references that can be readily contacted to Dr. Andrew Lidral 2174 ML, University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242. E-mail: Andrew-Lidral@uiowa.edu.

 Start date July 2008.
