Department of Pharmacology

A postdoctoral position funded by the American Heart Association is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Frederick W. Quelle in the Department of Pharmacology. The laboratory investigates mechanisms of signal transduction by Erythropoietin and other cytokine receptors, and their ability to regulate the proliferation of blood cells. Current projects are directed at defining the role of ubiquitination in regulating signaling from these receptors. These studies will employ modern molecular and cell biological approaches including site directed mutagenesis, transfection of mammalian cells, and immunologically-based analyses of protein expression, localization, and the activities of signal transduction pathways.  A Ph.D. in biomedical sciences is required, and practical experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular analysis of signal transduction is desired.  An applicant is preferred who can start immediately.

The laboratory is affiliated with the University of Iowa’s NCI designated Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, and has access to excellent core facilities. The University of Iowa is located in Iowa City, a mid-sized college town with high living standards and an inexpensive cost of living relative to larger cities.
