Libraries and Academic Support

University Libraries — The University Libraries consist of the Main Library and twelve departmental libraries:
        Art
        Biological Sciences
        Business
        Chemistry
        Curriculum Resources Laboratory
        Engineering
        Geoscience
        Health Sciences
        Law
        Mathematical Sciences
        Music
        Physics
        Psychology

The libraries house nearly four million volumes and provide a variety of reference and information services.

The Information Arcade, located near the North Entrance of the Main Library, is a computer lab with sophisticated software designed to facilitate research in many specializations. For any text or journal not found in UI Libraries, Interlibrary Loans can be arranged free of charge for graduate students.

The Reference Desk also offers a consultation service for graduate students to assist researchers in identifying and using print and electronic resources.

The Writing Center has tutors who do not to "fix" individual papers but rather to assist writers in improving their strategies of researching, organizing, drafting, editing, and revising. TAs may also want to send students to The Writing Center for extra help.

University Counseling Service — If you are concerned that you are not studying effectively, the Counseling Service may be able to help improve your study skills. Counselors provide help with study problems in addition to personal problems, interpersonal problems, decision-making, and vocational decisions.

Graduate Student Services — The Graduate College provides academic and counseling services to students from underrepresented populations. Call 335-2148 for more information.
