Explorations of Neural Crest Patterning in Zebrafish

Research Description We have several projects in the lab related to this topic.  The objectives all relate to understanding the genetic regulation of developmental events in neural crest, and making connections to human disease where possible. 
Undergraduate Role Histological preparations of zebrafish, injection of regulatory compounds into zebrafish embryos, microscopic analysis. 
Minimum Qualifications Biology major.  Willingness to work hard and a drive to learn!

Understanding How Epidermal Stem Cells Interact With Their Environment

Research Description To determine change in protein expression in
cultured epidermal stem cells exposed to
cytokines.

To determine signaling pathways in the epidermal stem cells.

Undergraduate Role Isolate and grow cells from the skin in culture.
Isolate RNA and protein from cultured cells.
Perform RT-PCR and western blot analyses.
Minimum Qualifications Biology/Science major
