The University of Iowa Graduate College staff work on behalf of the graduate faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars across the university to support a collaborative and intellectually rigorous academic environment where our scholars can research, discover, create, and teach.

Office of the Dean, 205 Gilmore Hall

John C. Keller, Associate Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate College
The Office of the Dean serves all graduate programs. Its offerings include:

  • Access to and communication with Dean Keller
  • Access to the Graduate Council
  • Data on graduate programs campus wide
  • Information on Graduate College finances and tuition scholarships
  • Human resources support for Graduate College programs and departments

Planning, Administration, Scholarships & Fellowships, 205 Gilmore Hall

Dan Berkowitz, Associate Dean for Student and Administrative Affairs
The Office of Planning, Administration, Scholarships & Fellowships serves all graduate programs. Its offerings include:

  • Nomination information, selection, administration, and support for various Graduate College fellowships, including the Presidential Graduate Fellowships and Ballard Seashore Fellowships
  • Support for the Graduate Student Senate
  • Nomination information and selection of Graduate College Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award

Academic Affairs, 6 Gilmore Hall

Dale Eric Wurster, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
The Office of Academic Affairs serves all graduate programs. Its offerings include:

  • Thesis preparation assistance
  • Information on Graduate College academic policies and procedures

Recruiting, Orientation, Diversity, Retention, 422 Gilmore Hall

Minnetta Gardinier, Associate Dean for Graduate Recruitment and Professional Development
The Office of Recruiting, Orientation, Diversity, and Retention serves all graduate programs. Its offerings include:

  • Assistance for departments and programs with recruitment procedures, materials, and best practices
  • Fall Orientation for all new graduate students
  • Office of Graduate Ethinic Inclusion, serving underrepresented graduate scholars
  • Summer Research Opportunities Programs for undergraduates preparing for graduate school

Office of Postdoctoral Scholars, 205 Gilmore Hall

Anne-Marie Ericson, Program Assistant, Office of Postdoctoral Scholars
The Office of Postdoctoral Scholars serves all postdocs. Its offerings include:

  • Orientation for postdocs new to The University of Iowa
  • Workshops and seminars on a variety of professional development topics, including securing external funding, writing for professional success, managing conflict in the workplace

Information Services, 6 Gilmore Hall

Andrew Jenkins, Director of Information Technology
The Office of Information Services' primary function is to provides technical support for the Graduate College and programs and units directly under the administrative wing of the Graduate College. For hardware, software, database, and website needs, programs can contact the Graduate College IT office directly.

For UI graduate students, the Graduate College IT office offers:

  • Thesis and dissertation formatting support clinic

External Relations, 205 Gilmore Hall

Jennifer Masada, Director of External Relations
The Office of External Relations serves Graduate College and programs and units directly under the administrative wing of the Graduate College. It also collaborates with campus units such as Admissions, University Relations, the Alumni Associate, and the University of Iowa Foundation to assist graduate programs with communications, advocacy, relationship building, and recruitment. Specific offerings include:

  • Assisting with writing, design, and photography
  • Producing feature stories about UI students, faculty, and alumni for print, web, and social media (video for select stories can be produced in partnership with UI Center for Media Production)
  • Assessing recruitment strategies and materials
  • Creating consistent, effective messaging for intended audiences
