The Graduate College fosters a learning environment that prioritizes complex interactions and encourages students to be active participants in our pluralistic, democratic society.

Students come to UI from every Iowa county, all 50 states, two U.S. possessions, and 112 foreign countries.

Currently, 15 percent of Iowa students are members of underrepresented minorities, and in a typical year, more than 400 minority students at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels receive degrees.

The University seeks to maintain a diverse campus through various efforts directed toward underrepresented groups in higher education. Students of Asian, African, Latino, Native American and other backgrounds find many opportunities for support and cultural identification at the University.

The Graduate College Iowa Recruitment Fellowships provide funding for outstanding doctoral students who are underrepresented in their academic areas.
