The Project on Rhetoric of Inquiry (POROI) is an interdisciplinary program at the University of Iowa that aims to provide resources for strengthening academic inquiry and scholarly writing in the arts, humanities, sciences, and professions.
POROI offers a single ten-month 25% time (10 hours per week), research assistant’s position beginning August 25, 2008 and running until May 8, 2009. Possibly renewable for a second year. The RA will assist with the development and maintenance of Scripta, a web portal for writing recourses, and the Journals Project, an online hub for the journals at the University of Iowa. Both projects are at various stages of development.
The RA will be responsible for assisting in these duties as well as others as needed:
- Working with the editor of the Virtual Writing University website to bring the Journals Project design to the point that it can go live.
- Working with a small committee to develop the Scripta website on a blogging or wiki web-design platform.
Must be enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Iowa. Preference to applicants with:
- 1-3 years experience in web design
- Experience with html, CSS, PHP, and Dreamweaver
- Experience with blogging platform software such as Expression Engine, Drupal, Wordpress, Wiki, etc.
- Some experience with graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
- Some knowledge about the Writing University initiatives and/or the writing programs at UI.
