Automated Information System

Calling 335-3244 will connect you with RING. This 24-hour UI service offers a choice of over 700 recorded messages that provide information on a number of different topics, ranging from health issues to local entertainment schedules. You can hear tips on finding housing, dealing with test anxiety, or using local services. A brochure listing the topics and their request codes can be obtained from the Campus Information Center at the IMU (335-3055). You can also call the CIC and ask for the number of the tape you wish to hear.

Iowa City ZIP Codes are 52240, 52245, and 52246; the University’s is 52242. The Coralville ZIP Code is 52241. Iowa City post office boxes have the ZIP Code 52244.

Telegrams & Cables

The Western Union Telegraph company provides telegraph and cable services. There are Western Union Offices in many establishments throughout Iowa City including the Union Bus Depot (404 E. College Street), Eagle Country Market (600 Dodge St.), and Mail Boxes Etc. (221 E. Market St.). To send a telegram, cable, or money by phone or to find the location nearest you, call Western Union at 1 (800) 325-6000.

East-West Oriental Foods (624 S Gilbert St) in Iowa City sells International Calling Cards for any country at various calling time and rate amounts.  This pre-pay system is a cheaper way to make international calls, or even calls throughout the US.
