Bus Service
Three local bus systems operate in the Iowa City area — the University’s bus system, called "Cambus," the Iowa City Transit, and the Coralville Transit system. The central departure and arrival point for the Iowa City and Coralville systems is the corner of Clinton and Washington streets.

Note: Of these bus lines, only Cambus operates on Sunday. (Return to top)

Cambus
T
he Cambus is a free and convenient means of getting from one part of the campus to another. Rectangular, black and white Cambus signs mark the places where the buses stop to pick up or discharge passengers. Cambus schedules vary with the academic calendar. The Daily Iowan carries information about schedule changes. The principal Cambus routes are known by colors (red or blue routes), even though all Cambus vehicles are yellow with a black stripe. The Red Route goes around the campus in a clockwise direction and the Blue Route in a counterclockwise direction. The Pentacrest Route goes between the central hospital buildings and the Pentacrest. The Oakdale Route runs between the UI Hospitals and Clinics and the Oakdale Campus (slightly northwest of Coralville). The Hawkeye Route runs between the main campus and the Hawkeye Apartments. The Mayflower Shuttle Route runs between Mayflower Dorm and the Pentacrest. The Interdorm Route runs between Rienow-Slater and Mayflower dorms. The West Dorm Shuttle runs from Rienow-Slater Dorms to the Pentacrest. The name of the route is on a sign on the front of the bus. Maps of Cambus routes are available at the Campus Information Center in the IMU and on the buses. For more information call 319-335-8633.

Iowa City Transit
Iowa City’s public bus service is better and less expensive than that of many American cities. The fare is 75 cents, payable upon entering the bus. Exact change is required. A monthly bus pass may be purchased for $25 at the Civic Center, downtown banks, several retail and grocery stores, and at the beginning of the month downtown in the Old Capitol Center. Student fall and spring semester passes are also offered. Students who buy a semester pass will receive a discount. The cost for a semester pass is $80. You can buy semester passes at the University Parking Services at the IMU ramp. There is also a free Downtown Shuttle, with a north and south loop. These buses are orange with sun rays on the side. Maps and schedules of all bus routes are available at the Civic Center, the Chamber of Commerce (129 E. Washington St.), and the public library. An information center is located in the Old Capitol Mall. To request more information, call 319-356-5151.
