The CIC/Iowa Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) is an award winning program designed to pair promising underrepresented undergraduate students with faculty mentors in order to initiate the students into research activities within a given discipline.

Benefits of the Program

SROP gives undergraduate students first-hand exposure to the graduate school experience and faculty life by placing them with individuals whose work is closely related to their academic interests and career goals. Students work under faculty mentorship either on an individual basis or as part of a research team. Research teams may also include graduate students, research scientists, and other SROP students.

The faculty mentor will:

  1. Help design and monitor an appropriate research project for the student or incorporate the student into on-going research.
  2. Work with the student on an abstract, rough draft, and final paper which summarizes the research.
  3. Assist the student in preparation for an oral presentation and a poster presentation at the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) Summer Research Opportunities Program Conference as well as the Iowa
    Summer Undergraduate Research Conference.

In addition to educational benefits, participants accepted into the program will also receive:
