Graduate Incentive Fellowship (GIF)
The Graduate Incentive Fellowship (GIF) program rewards University of Iowa graduate students who successfully compete for national fellowships and other highly competitive, prestigious national awards.
The GIF program provides a 5% supplement to the fellowship stipend for the first year of the award. GIF awards are non-renewable.
- GIF funds are to be used to enhance professional development
opportunities, such as research materials, travel to professional
meetings, subvention of publication costs, or software for
preparation/presentation of research results.
- GIF funds are provided through reimbursements based on receipts, which will be accepted through June 1 of the award year.
Eligible national fellowships include those from Federal agencies (NSF, NIH, NASA, NEH, DEd, Fulbright, and similar Graduate Fellowship programs) and those from major non-profit foundations (Mellon, Woodrow Wilson, Ford, and similar foundations) that are awarded competitively to students from several disciplines.
- The Graduate College may approve other fellowship programs that meet similar criteria.
Students from all areas of graduate study at the University of Iowa
are eligible. To receive a GIF award, students should submit a completed
GIF Application (PDF) to the
Graduate College when they are notified of a successful proposal.
