Sanxay Prize
The Sanxay Prize is awarded annually to a University of Iowa liberal arts senior from Iowa who shows the highest promise of achievement in graduate work. Students must plan to enter a doctoral program in 2008. December 2007, May and August 2008 graduates are eligible for this award. Candidates must have been born in Iowa or be current permanent residents of Iowa. The prize, which carries a stipend of $1,000, may be used at the University of Iowa or at any other university in the United States or abroad.
In order to compete for the award, students must be nominated by their department. Either students or faculty can initiate the departmental nomination process. Departments can nominate up to two students. Nominations should include the following:
- A letter from the nominating department which provides details concerning the student’s promise for outstanding graduate work;
- A brief statement by the student indicating his or her academic interests and plans including a list of doctoral programs to which the student has applied;
- A transcript;
- An activity list which includes the student’s research activities, notable extracurricular activities, and awards.
Nominations should be sent to Dan Berkowitz, Associate Dean, Graduate College, 205 Gilmore Hall, by Friday, March 7, 2008. The winner will be recognized at the annual Honors Award Ceremony.
