GPA

UI Cumulative GPA: UI CUM GPA is calculated in two places.  The official transcript (administratively, the grade report) and the degree audit.  Transcripted UI CUM GPA is comprised of all UI courses 3000-level and up, which are taken when the Graduate College program of study is primary.  Degree audit UI CUM GPA is comprised of all UI courses 3000-level and up, which are taken when the Graduate College program of study is primary and when it is not, the GPA is comprised of all UI courses that are approved degree requirements, e.g., Tippie College of Business, Graduate Management Programs, College of Law, College of Pharmacy.  GPA from non-UI earned transfer credit is not included in either UI CUM GPA occurrence.

Graduate College Program GPA: A graduate student's Graduate College Program GPA is comprised of all UI courses that are approved degree requirements. This GPA is only available via the degree audit.

Graduate College Major Program GPA: A graduate student's Major Program GPA is comprised of only the UI courses which are used to satisfy degree requirements. This GPA is only available via the degree audit.

Active Program of Study Data (MAUI)

First session:  The session in which a student is first admitted to a program of study.  Note that if there is a change to the program of study, e.g., subprogram update, the first session will update to the semester in which the program of study is added to the student record.

CAS:  The credit accumulation session denotes the semester in which a student started earning credit toward a credential.  This was created for graduate education because of the progressive nature of degree pursuit and completion among graduate students.  E.g., students often progress from a master’s degrees to a doctorate, and the credit used to fulfill requirements for the doctorate often include coursework completed under the master's degree credential.  The CAS accounts for the fact that the session in which a graduate student is admitted to a credential is often different from the semester in which they first started earning credit.

Degree audit session:  The degree audit session refers to the set of catalog (degree) requirements to which the student is being held.  In other words, the UI General Catalog is the authoritative source for degree requirements.  The degree audit session refers to the degree requirements published in the catalog to which the student is being held, e.g., Fall 2022 or Fall 2023, etc.
