Research project title

X-ray and gamma-ray astronomy and the construction of small satellites

Research description

Analysis of data from orbiting X-ray observatories, including the HaloSat CubeSat built at Iowa, or the VERITAS gamma-ray telescope in Arizona. Construction of instrumentation for small satellites.

Undergraduate minimum qualifications

At least one physics course. Experience with computers and programming is preferred, but not required.

Undergraduate role

Students will learn about astrophysics and then analyze X-ray or gamma-ray data to attempt to address a topical research question. For those with backgrounds in programming or engineering, the research could involve the construction of instrumentation including work in electronics or design and fabrication of mechanical parts.
