Chemical and Biochemical Engineering
Research project title

Nanomaterials for Renewable Energy Technologies

Research description

Developing low-cost synthetic routes for fabricating nanomaterials with well-defined architecture, and utilizing them for energy conversion and storage technologies.

Undergraduate minimum qualifications

Students with background on chemistry/physics/applied mathematics/materials/chemical engineering or related fields are strongly encouraged.

Undergraduate role

Students will particularly focus on developing low-cost synthetic approach to fabricate nanostructured materials with well-defined structure, shape and crystal orientation. Emphasis will be placed on using wet chemical synthesis route for fabricating nanomaterials and characterizing their optical, electronic, electrochemical, and structural properties using state-of-the-art facilities available at the University of Iowa. The students will learn to work both independently and collaboratively and will be responsible for collection and interpretation of research data and dissemination of scientific results through participation in national/international conferences.
